Watercolor painting ideas for kids

Progressive watercolor technique heart

We had tried progressive watercolor technique earlier while doing Sun. We did not get the effect we were hoping for. I had done progressive watercolor technique at my school, but could not recreate. When I did a google search for progressive watercolor technique, I found progressive watercolor art tutorial from Grow Creative. Followed the tutorial to make a heart this time.

Materials needed :

1. Watercolor paper

2. Watercolor in red color

3. Pencil

4. Hair dryer

Method :

1. Draw a heart at the middle of the paper.

2. Paint the entire paper. Give a very light wash.

3. Dry the painting using hair dryer.

4. For the second wash, paint around the heart. Let it dry using a hair dryer.
5. Draw a bigger heart around this heart using the pencil.
6. Paint around the bigger heart. Let it dry. The idea is to create gradation of color from the center. Let the painting dry after each wash.
7. Repeat the steps from 4 to 6 for each addition of heart.
I feel still there is something missing in the paint. Probably we are using more paint than required. We will try this technique again to see whether we get better result next time.
