Paper batik heart

Batik is resisting wax with dye. Our flower crayon batik is one of my popular posts! This time we made a batik heart for Valentine’s day gift. It can be easily done with paper and crayons.

Materials:

1. Paper – We used copier paper

2. Crayons

3. Watercolor

Method:

1. Draw and color a heart with crayons pressing hard. My daughter made a simple heart doddle. Since I know there will be a lot of coloring involved, I gave only quarter of the paper.

2. Crumble the artwork once you are satisfied with coloring. Smooth it out and crumble again. We repeated the crumbling and smoothing out for five times. The paper becomes very soft.

My daughter was hesitating last time to crumble. But as she knew the process this time, she was ok with that.

3. Once the paper is smoothed out completely after a lot of crumbling, apply watercolor over the artwork.  The cracks created by crumbling is filled with watercolor but other portion of the art is resisted by crayons.

The beautiful batik is done with paper and crayons. I will be pasting the art work in a card stock and gifting as a card for valentine’s day.
