Leprechaun craft : Sight words matching

Here is another idea for St.Patrick’s day. We matched sight words in a paper Leprechaun craft. Though we have used the craft idea for sight words matching, it can be used for any learning activities like alphabet matching, math problems etc. Or, the idea can be used just to make Leprechaun’s face without sneaking in any learning activity.

Leprechaun craft!

Materials needed:

  1. Construction paper
  2. Glue
  3. Marker
  4. Scissors
  5. Googly eyes

Method:

Preparation:

  1. I cut an “U” shape from a tan colored construction paper for Leprechaun’s face, a green cap, a black strip for belt and yellow square for buckle.
  2. My preschooler tore the orange paper. Tearing paper is good for fine motor skills.
  3. I wrote the sight words in the ripped papers and the same words in Leprechaun’s face. Hands on sight word activities for preschool

Play:

  1. My daughter pasted the yellow square in the black strip. She pasted the black strip on the hat and glued the hat to the face.
  2. Once the basic set up is completed, she moved on to the beard to match the sight words.
  3. She read the word in the ripped paper, found the matching word in the face and glued the paper on the face.St.Patrick's day literacy activities for preschool
  4. She repeated step four for all the ripped paper. Glued the googly eyes.
