Watercolor resist ideas for kids

Watercolor resist bookmarks for Valentine’s day classroom gift idea

We prefer hand made gifts for the valentine’s day classroom gift. As my daughter has to make gifts for 30 kids, the process should not take more time. Last year, she used picmonkey to make valentine’s day card. This year we made bookmarks with our old beloved crayon resist technique.
Materials needed:
1. Watercolor paper
2. Watercolor
3. Ribbon
4. White crayons
5. Punching machine
Method:
1. Draw hearts with white crayons in the watercolor paper. Hearts will not be visible at this point. We drew on 2 sheets of paper for 32 book marks.
2. Color the entire paper with watercolors. We used paints in multiple colors on the same sheet.
3. Once the paint is applied, the crayon hearts resist paint and pop up. Every time it looks like a magic.
4. Let the painting dry. After the painting is completely dried, draw equal sized rectangles at the back of the painting. Cut out the rectangles.
5. Punch a hole at the middle of one of the smaller sides.
6. Tie the ribbon
7. Write your valentine message and your name at the back of the book marks.
Without considering drying time, it took us nearly 1 hour to do the entire process for 32 book marks. Tying ribbon took us more time than any other process.
