Teach photoshop to Elementary school kids – Introduction

Hi All,My eight year old daughter always shows interest towards art. I can see her more engaged in drawing, painting more than any other activities. She was doing graphics designing using free software for over a year and she loves them! So I am introducing Photoshop to her. As Photoshop is one of the best graphics and photo editing software, I thought introducing it to her will benefit her in the long run.

I am planning to write a series of posts about how I am introducing her to Photoshop. This introduction post is the first in the series.

In this introduction, I would like to talk about the programs my daughter had used in the past. These programs introduced her to create images and built her confidence level.

1. Paint :  The first and foremost program she got introduced was MS Paint. It comes free with Windows.  MS paint taught her about brush, eraser, colors etc. It gave her the solid introduction to the computer based art.

Done with Paint

2. Kid Pix (affiliation link) – Kid Pix has very simple interface to use. Though it is a very basic graphics design software, it has cool features like mixer tool, rubber stamps etc. Now some of Kid Pix product’s can create 3D graphics, we have not used them.

3. PicmonkeyPicmonkey is a free online photo editing website. It is so simple to use. Infact my daughter created her valentine card for her school friends last year using picmonkey. You can add frames, text, effects in no time.

4. Tux Paint – Tux paint is a FREE drawing program. It is geared towards children 3 – 12 years of age. It has a wide variety of stamps from animals, dress, face, space etc. Major disadvantage of this software is once you place an object in the interface, we can’t move that around. That did not prevent my daughter from enjoying the software. Tux Paint can be downloaded from here.

Three of the four programs we have used is free. Now my daughter has a strong basic understanding of computer based graphics art.

I will document our adventure in Photoshop in a series of posts.

This introduction post will help you introduce our little ones to graphic designing. I am excited to see you all in my upcoming Photoshop series!

If you found this post useful, pin it or share it! It will keep me motivated. Thank you!
