This egg is our first experience with store bought air dry clay. In the past, we had done some projects with homemade air dry clay which cracked a little bit when dried. So we wanted to try with commercial product which too cracked for us. But it was fun to work with the clay.
Materials needed:
1. Crayola air dry clay
2. Plastic egg
3. Acrylic paint (optional)
Method :
Caution: Air dry clay is very messy. Luckily I chose a cardboard box as our work table. Otherwise cleaning should have taken more time than the project itself.
Took a ball of clay, kneaded and rolled into a circle. Kept the plastic egg in the circle and covered it with the clay.
Covered the entire egg, smoothing out at all places.
Dried the egg for a day. It had cracked while drying. My daughter was little upset about that. I said, all eggs crack. Mmm…it is not easy to convince a seven year old.
We painted our egg with acrylic paint which is optional as I the unpainted version looked good too.
It was very fun to work with the clay. It did color our hands orange but came off completely with soap. My daughter would have been more happier if the cracks were not there.
Our first experience with air dry clay is satisfactory. I am looking forward to try many more projects with the clay.
