Easter egg decoration ideas

Egg lantern

We made this egg lantern from tissue paper scraps and balloons using paper mache technique. How beautiful was it when lit?
We have done paper mache projects few times and paper mache bowl is one of them. So my daughter did the lantern completely by herself.
Materials needed:

1. Balloon
2. Tissue paper
3. Glue
4. Battery operated tealight candle

Blow the balloon and tie a knot. Mix glue with water in the ratio of 1:1. Start covering the balloon with the tissue paper. For the first layer of covering, we just used plain water without glue. Dip the tissue in water and cover the balloon. This will ensure that the balloon comes out easily from the tissue paper later.

From the second layer, use water mixed glue. We did up to 3 layers of covering. Let the balloon dry. Ours took around 3 hours. The drying time will vary depending on the weather condition and the amount of glue used.

Once the balloon is completely dried, cut the balloon near the knot and carefully remove the balloon. The balloon came out easily.

It was like an inverted egg lantern. So we closed the hole  with a piece of tissue paper and made a hole near the bottom of the egg to insert the tealight candle.

The girls were delighted to see the beautifully lit egg lantern!
