Free play – Home made playdough

Hi everyone,
We tried the playdough recipe from the imagination tree. It came out well and my daughter enjoyed playing with that.

Material Needed :
  • 1 cup of all purpose flour (Maida in India)
  • 1 table spoon of Oil
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 table spoon of cream of tartar (available in baking section)
  • around 3/4 cup of boiling water
  • Food coloring (optional)

Procedure
Mix the flour, oil, salt and cream of tartar in a bowl and add the boiling water. Stir continuously till dough is formed. Add food coloring (optional).  Allow it cool and knead it vigorously until the stickiness is gone.
Once I have tried a slightly different recipe in which I added food coloring in the water just to make the color mix properly.
I did not add food coloring this time as my daughter didn’t even touch  my previous homemade colored playdough. However she likes to touch chapati dough or pizza dough which made me think that she might be interested in uncolored version.
She was touching this time. Great improvement! But did not want to play with that.
To make her play with the dough, I kept few flat stones in the playdough. I asked her to pick the stones. She has to apply a little pressure to pick the stones from the dough. She was working on her pincer grip too!
After few attempts, I encouraged her to place the stones by herself and pick them up!
Playdough did not keep her interest for a long time. But I was happy to see her touching it!
